Almas started his outdoor career as climbing instructor moving on to lead treks and exploratory expeditions in the Indian Himalaya & Bhutan. His love for Bhutan’s wild mountain trails, culture and people has seen him visit the Kingdom eighteen times to lead many treks including his personal favourite the Lunana Snowman.
Almas has completed Lunana Snowman trek three times including both Bumthang and Nikkla Chu exit trails from Lunana. Since his first visit to Bhutan in 1995, Almas has developed a true understanding of the country. He spent thirteen years working in Bhutan as a trek leader safely taking many clients on high altitude treks into Lunana region.
Almas is also an authority on the Indian Himalaya and has been involved with the writing of trekking guide books and route making. His life’s work throughout the Himalaya has been driven by a deep respect for mountain people and the humbling effect of the high mountains.
Almas’s experience leading treks to remote and challenging areas has given him a cool head for logistics and planning. Almas lives in Tasmania with his wife Jayne, where he is a leader in the local emergency service; disaster response and search and rescue. He is qualified in Wilderness first aid.
