Mountaineering history
As you may have noticed from our itineraries there is a concentration of treks around the three highest mountains in the world: Everest, K2 and Kangchenjunga.

This is not only because these regions offer some of the best trekking routes but is also due to their colourful mountaineering history. We believe some knowledge of this can add to your experience while on trek, for more information see the links below:

Expedition to Peak Lenin (7,153m) with Mountain Tracks
Dates: Sun 13th Jul to Sat 2nd Aug 2008; Cost £2,995 incl.intl flight

Join Nick Parks from Mountain Tracks on an expedition to climb Peak Lenin. Lenin technically speaking, is a straightforward climb, similar in grade to Mont Blanc or Elbrus nevertheless it is a very high peak so it is by no means an “easy summit”.

Walk the Haute Route from Chamonix to Zermatt with Mountain Tracks
Dates: 5th to 14th July 2008; 2nd to 11th August 2008; 30th August to 8th September 2008

The Haute Route is one of the world's great multi-day treks. The route links two renowned alpine mountaineering centres, Chamonix and Zermatt. The path passes through majestic scenery and you will enjoy stunning panoramas. The walking is not technically challenging, but you need to be physically well prepared for long days of high-level walking.

Pakistan earthquake relief project
The Mountain Company organised a UK wide project to collect warm clothes and tents for the quake victims of Pakistan. Cotswold Outdoor kindly agreed to use all their stores as collection points, for more information
