Personal serviceYour contact for any questions before or after you book will be Roland Hunter who is the owner and founder of The Mountain Company. He has visited all the locations included in our program of treks and will give you knowledgeable and friendly advice. We encourage anyone who is interested in a trek to get in contact to discuss their requirements and expectations. We can give suggestions based on our knowledge of the areas and time of year you would like to go. We can either talk on the phone or meet face to face to explore the options in more detail. We understand that it is often difficult to discuss plans during working hours so do not hesitate to contact us at any time. We encourage you to question us freely about any aspect of the trip and we will provide honest and knowledgeable advice in return. We believe it is important that you have a realistic expectations of our services, for example what is included in the cost of your holiday and any extra expenses you might incur. Financial protectionIn accordance with "The Package Travel, Package Holidays and Package Tours Regulations 1992" all passengers booking with The Mountain Trekking Company Ltd are fully protected for the initial deposit and subsequently the balance of all monies paid to us, including repatriation if required, arising from cancellation or curtailment of your travel arrangements due to the insolvency of The Mountain Trekking Company Ltd. This Insurance has been arranged by International Passenger Protection Limited and underwritten by Insurers who are members of the Association of British Insurers.
Small groups and trek leadersWe use either western or local leaders on the treks whose responsibilities are to ensure you have an enjoyable, safe and interesting experience. Where possible we like to use local leaders/Sherpas so that they can share their knowledge of the area visited. We use western leaders, often mountaineers, who know the area from previous visits for the more remote and logistically challenging treks, for more information on our trek leaders The minimum size for the majority of our treks is two members, with no additional small group surcharge, and the maximum is generally twelve or thirteen (please see the individual trek information for exact minimum & maximum group sizes). Safety
On every trip safety of our customers and trek staff is our top priority. This begins at the planning stage from designing a well thought out itinerary which allows for the necessary time to acclimatise to the increase in altitude. All our guides are well trained and highly experienced in leading groups in the Himalayas. For our remote treks, where the nearest village might be a long walk, we take a satellite phone (Thuraya) for communication. On some treks we provide Motorola 2 way radios to enable the guide to keep in contact with others walking at a different pace, this prevents the need for the whole party to walk in one large group. Good valueAll our treks are good value for money. We provide an excellent service at competitive prices. We do not compromise on the quality of any aspect of the trip and always ensure our local staff are paid a fair wage. Responsible tourismWe are dedicated to responsible tourism with the aim that future travellers will see the destinations in a similar or better state than we have been able to. One of our main criteria for selecting local partners and staff has been their approach in this area, in this way the positive effects of tourism are enforced and the local economy will develop in a sustainable manner. Low volume and low impact travelling is one of the most effective ways of preserving the fragile areas we visit and provides more opportunities for contact with locals and for cultural exchange. We do our utmost to work within the guidelines of the International Porter Protection Group (IPPG) and Tourism Concern. We encourage clients to consider offsetting the environmental effects of international travel by contributing to Climate Care. The Mountain Company has developed its own Responsible Tourism policy.
