The founder of The Mountain Company is Roland Hunter, who has travelled to some of the most remote corners of the globe while pursuing his passion for climbing and trekking. The impetus behind starting The Mountain Company was an expedition he led to Broad Peak in the summer of 2004 where two of the fourteen members in the team got to the true summit at 8,047m. The treks organised by The Mountain Company visit the best areas he has found over the years. Some of his trips have been listed below: 2008 - led Manaslu Circuit and Dhaulagiri Circuit via French Col 2007- led K2 & Gondogoro la (twice!) and Mera Peak expedition 2006- led Everest North Col (Tibet), Annapurna Circuit, Annapurna Sanctuary, Bhutan Discovery, Stok Kangri expedition and Lamarayu trek, K2 basecamp and Gondogoro la. Kanchenjunga Goecha la, Singalila Ridge, Charity Challenge to Everest base camp, Siklis trek and Langtang with Kianjin Gompa 2005- led the Mera Peak expedition, Everest base camp & high passes, Sikkim Discovery and Markha valley for The Mountain Company 2004- leader of an international expedition to Broad Peak (8,047m), Pakistan More on this expedition- Everestnews.com & Explorersweb.com articles 2003- joined an expedition to the south face of Kanchenjunga (8,586m), Nepal More on this expedition
2001- summited Mount Everest (8,848m) via the north east ridge from Tibet; 2001 to 2004- lived in Calgary, Canada where I enjoyed many climbing and skiing trips to the Canadian Rockies. 2000- summit of Kilimanjaro via the Umbwe/western breach route; 1998- successful expedition to Mt McKinley (Denali) with a small group of friends; 1997- summit of both Marble Wall and Khan Tengri (7000m) in Kazakhstan; 1992- worked in India then trekked, climbed and skied around Nanda Devi, India (Curzon Trail and Kuari Pass); 1991 and before- climbing trips to the Alps (Matterhorn, Mont Blanc and Eiger among others). Roland is a member of both the Alpine Club and the Calgary Mountain Club.
