Mount Kilimanjaro, located in the north of Tanzania, is the highest free standing mountain in the world and also the highest mountain in Africa (the easiest of the so-called "Seven Summits"). Kilimanjaro is a volcano capped by glaciers, and along with its smaller neighbour Mount Meru is visible for up to hundred miles away on the plains below. During the trek up to the summit of Kilimanjaro you will pass through an incredible range of climatic zones from tropical rainforest, alpine meadows and to snow and ice. Along the way you will be sure to see the rather unusual looking groundsel tree and probably some monkeys in the lower forests. The Kilimanjaro treks are lead by an English speaking guide with a team of porters and a cook. All group and personal equipment will be carried by the porters, except your small backpack which will include items that you require during the day. We recommend the 7 day Machame route to maximise your chances of successfully climbing the mountain. This route is designed to help aid the acclimatisation process which makes it a safer and more enjoyable experience. If you are looking for more of a challenge the Umbwe is a steeper route although no technical climbing experience is required. Our base is a hotel on the slopes of Kilimanjaro, the main building was originally a farm house built in the early 1900s and is surrounded by beautiful gardens with a variety of exotic trees and flowering shrubs. The guest accommodation is provided in cottages around the grounds with all rooms having a private bathroom with bath or shower. The hotel also has a swimming pool, a comfortable bar and lounge and a restaurant with a well prepared menu. There are two climbing seasons for Kilimanjaro, mid December through to mid March, and early June to mid October which are known as the dry seasons. Mid December through to mid March tends to be dry and warm, whereas June to mid October is generally cool and dry. The most popular season is generally the warm and dry season particularly around Christmas. How about going on a safari or relaxing on a beach in Zanzibar after the trek? We can organise these extensions to your holiday for you.
