Come and join this trek to raise funds for the charity Himalayan Education Lifeline Project (“HELP”)! This Charity Challenge is open to everyone. Jim Coleman, the founder of HELP, will also join the group on this special trek in October 2008.
The aim of HELP is to enable young people from poor communities in the Himalayas to improve their employment opportunities through education and in so doing enhance not only their own standard of living, but also that of their extended families and of the wider communities they come from.
You will also get the chance to visit one of schools in Sikkim supported by HELP near the Kwezing homestay on Day 3 of the itinerary. For more information on HELP take a look at their website http://www.help-education.org/
This is a varied journey from visiting the hill station of Gangtok to trekking in the lush forests of Sikkim and into the high alpine environment below Kanchenjunga. Sikkim is famous for its large variety of flora especially its orchids of which they are over 600 species.
This beautiful trek starts in sub-tropical forests, passes through pasturelands of grazing yaks and reaches the Goecha la, at just under 5,000m, opposite the eastern flank of Mt Kanchenjunga. There are many other impressive mountains seen on this trek including Kabru, Rathong and Pandim.

"The Goecha La trek was a great experience, in truly amazing scenery
and breathtakingly beautiful landscape. Roland and the Mountain Company
team's level organisation was faultless and it felt like we were in the
hands of a truly professional team from the start to the end of the
trek. I look forward to another trek with the Mountain Company next
year and would happily recommend them to anyone looking for an
adventure in the Himalayas" Ben Webb (UK)
