About us

The Mountain Company was set up by Roland Hunter with the aim of offering the best trips to the areas he knows well from numerous climbing and trekking expeditions: the Himalayas, Karakoram and Kilimanjaro.

By focussing on a handful of countries we are able to organise our trips to deliver the best possible service. We have done the majority of treks ourselves so will be able to give you comprehensive advice through first hand knowledge.

The Mountain Company offers a wide range of journeys from cultural tours and gentle trekking to strenuous expeditions such as to the North Col of Everest at 7,000m!

We work closely with the International Porter Protection Group (IPPG) who we also support as a Camp 1 sponsor. We follow IPPG five guidelines for porter protection. We also work with other organisations such as Climate Care, Tourism Concern, Friends of Conservation and Kathmandu Environmental Education Project. A Responsible Tourism policy has been developed which aims to ensure that The Mountain Company and its clients act in a way that is socially, environmentally and culturally sound.

The Mountain Company does not produce brochures instead all the information about our trips is published on our website. Each trek has a webpage with an outline itinerary and key information (dates, cost, grade etc). If you would like to find out more about one then download the Trip Dossier from that webpage.

The Trip Dossiers have comprehensive itineraries, lots of other useful information and photos which should give you a good idea of what to expect! If you do not have internet access please get in touch with The Mountain Company and we will post Trip Dossiers to you.

All of our trips can be tailor-made to suit your interests and dates. We have considerable experience in organising private itineraries, just let us know what you are looking for!

In accordance with "The Package Travel, Package Holidays and Package Tours Regulations 1992" all passengers booking with The Mountain Trekking Company Ltd are fully protected for the initial deposit and subsequently the balance of all monies paid to us, including repatriation if required, arising from cancellation or curtailment of your travel arrangements due to the insolvency of The Mountain Trekking Company Ltd.

This Insurance has been arranged by International Passenger Protection Limited and underwritten by Insurers who are members of the Association of British Insurers.
