The Kingdom of Bhutan, land of the peaceful Dragon, can be found in a hidden corner of the eastern Himalayas between Tibet and the states of India of Sikkim, Assam and Arunachal Pradesh.

Mystery and legend have surrounded the country for centuries. Its steep mountainsides and remote forested valleys have many holy places with deep mystical importance, where the founders of Tibetan Buddhism have left their traces. It is a land of supernatural legends, ancient monastery and fortresses and even today the people still wear traditional national dress.

The Bhutanese people have succeeded in maintaining their cultural heritage that is preserved in age-old traditions. Much of Bhutan is still covered in thick forest which sustains a wealth of plant and bird life. Above the tree line the country is wild and rugged, the mountains are largely unexplored and offer some of the best trekking in the Himalaya.

Tourism in Bhutan
The Royal Government of Bhutan recognises that tourism is an important source of revenue and means of promoting understanding between nations. At the same time it wishes to minimise any possible adverse effects on the local environment and culture which some other developing nations have experienced with the rapid growth of tourism.

For this reason the Bhutanese Government strictly regulates the number of tourists permitted to visit the country and consequently has maintained the tourist tarifs at a very high level. This results in the high selling prices we must charge for our trips, but we are certain that the wonderful experience of visiting this unique land will more than justify the expense.
