The trek to the base camp traverses beautiful and varied country, and after some acclimatisation and exploration at the base camp you cross a high pass to reach the remote monastery/fortress of Lingshi. It was built by the first ruler of Bhutan as a defence against Tibet, it has a superb location on a hill overlooking the valley. After a rest at Jangothang, the route crosses another high pass to trek south back to Bhutan's capital, Thimphu. At this pass we are rewarded with stunning views of Jichu Drake (6,900m) and the Himalayan range in both Bhutan and Tibet.
