The Mountain Company is planning to organise two treks to Makalu in Spring 2011, one will visit Makalu Base Camp and then return to Tumlingtar.
The second group will cross the challenging high passes from Makalu Base Camp to Everest (Sherpani, West Col & Amphulaptsa). This trek follows the crux section of The Great Himalaya Trail ("GHT") and is known as one of the most difficult treks in the Himalayas.
Both of these treks will be led by Roland Hunter, in Spring 2009 he climbed to the summit of Mount Makalu (without supplemental oxygen or Sherpa support) and as a result knows this area well take a look at TMC blog for more about Roland’s summit day on Makalu.
