K2 & Gondogoro La

This is a challenging trek to Concordia and K2 Base Camp followed by crossing the technical Gondogoro La pass.

The Mountain Company has cancelled all trips to Pakistan, for more information please read our blog post

K2 & Gondogoro is considered to be one of the world’s great treks with breathtaking scenery unsurpassed anywhere else in the high mountains. The journey starts with a flight to Skardu with spectacular views of the Karakoram range including Nanga Parbat, after several nights in Skardu we take jeep transport to the road head at Askole.

The trail is lined with rugged mountains all the way from the last village in the Braldu gorge at Askole up the Baltoro glacier to Concordia, you will see the Trango Towers, Masherbrum, K2 and Broad Peak among many others. Concordia has been described as the "Throne Room of the Gods" for its unique 360° panorama of 7,000m mountains and impressive views of K2.

After a few days time exploring K2 and Broad Peak Base Camps, we start the challenging trek out over the Gondogoro La and descend into the beautiful Hushe valley. If you think the crossing of the Gondogoro La is going to be too challenging for you, we offer an option to descend the Baltoro glacier back to Askole.

Please take a look at this video on YouTube taken by a member of our K2 & Gondogoro La group in 2008, this gives a really good idea of what to expect on this trek- K2 & Gondogoro la in 5 minutes on YouTube

In 2013 we are planning to run two treks to K2 Base Camp, in early August we have K2 Base Camp & Gondogoro La trek where mountaineering skills are required to cross this pass. In late August we have a group doing K2 Base Camp & Concordia where you walk back down Baltoro glacier from Concordia. Please get in touch with us if you would like to discuss requirements to join these treks.

Trip Grade Challenging

Trip Grade Challenging

Suitability: a good choice for regular, long distance hill walkers. A very high level of fitness would be required for our toughest treks and expeditions. Previous trekking experience at high altitude is preferable although not mandatory given sufficient experience, preparation and training. These trips may involve mountaineering and glacial travel.

1) Walking times: average 7 to 9 hours walking per day (with several longer days up to 15 hours) for up to 28 days with some rest days included.

2) Altitude: up to 6,500m.

3) Terrain: you will experience a wide variety of mountain terrain from reasonable trails to crossing technical mountaineering passes and climbing to summits sometimes including use of fixed ropes.

4) Remoteness:  usually in more remote areas and likely to be a long distance from nearest road and facilities available in a city.
