When is the best time of year to visit Burma?

The best time to visit Burma (Myanmar) is during the dry season between November and February. At this time of year the days remain warm into the 30Cs in most places but it can get chilly at night in the hills such as Kalaw or Pyin Oo Lwin (Maymyo).

However the downside to the good weather between November to February is the higher number of tourists travelling in Burma. This can result hotels in the main places being full so it is important to book your trip early to secure the rooms.

By March and into April, the temperatures are increasing in places like Yangon, Bagan and Mandalay to over 40C however Inle Lake is cooler with highs around mid 30C’s.

The monsoon rains start in June and often continue into early October with the wettest months being July and August. Temperatures also remain hot across the country around 30°C. During the monsoon Bagan located in the central plains remains dryer than other parts of Burma with low amounts of rainfall and temperatures around mid 30C’s. Travelling in Burma during the monsoon is possible however it is certainly not the best time of year. Owner of TMC, Roland Hunter, travelled in Burma for one month in August 2012 and July 2013 so has first hand experience of monsoon in Burma. Ngapali and Ngwe Saung beaches are closed during the monsoon season.
