How fit do I need to be to trek in Nepal?

Of course overall the fitter you are the better as you are more likely to enjoy your trek however the fitness level required will differ for each trek. It is for this reason we have carefully graded each trek to help you select the right objective for you. We have six levels of difficulty from “easy” to “challenging” with each level having a detailed explanation on factors that impact the difficulty (walking times; altitude, terrain and remoteness) as well as suitability description.

The Mountain Company has a selection process where we require everyone interested in joining a trek to complete our Pre-Trip questionnaire disclosing personal information about their experience, fitness and medical conditions. All of these completed forms are reviewed and approved by us and in some cases we will ask for a clearance letter from youur doctor and other references to support your application.

It would be worth reading our blog article titled “Tips and advice for a successful trek to Everest Base Camp” for further information on how to get fit before departure as well as other useful tips. This advice is relevant to all treks not just Everest Base Camp.

If you think your level of fitness is not high enough to join a trek to a remote area in Nepal then you could take a look at Luxury Kathmandu Valley. For this trek you walk between hotels located on the rim of the Kathmandu valley however as we send a support vehicle so it is possible to get a pick up from several places along the trail during each day’s walk. The other option would be to take a look at one of our tours of Nepal where you stay in a hotel every night then drive between the main places to visit in this country

If you are not sure about whether a trek is a suitable objective for you please get in touch with us and we will advise you further.
