Bardia is rich flora and fauna including Bengal tiger, single-horned Asiatic rhinoceros, wild elephants, leopards, deer and wild boar. There are fewer tiger in Bardia compared to Chitwan however you have a higher chance of seeing one.

If you are looking for a complete change from the mountains why not consider the option of travelling to the west of Nepal for a visit to the jungle in Bardia National Park? To get to Bardia National Park you will fly for an hour and half to Nepalganj airport and then drive for two hours to reach your lodge.

Bardia National Park was first set up as Royal Karnali Reserve in 1976 and then upgraded to National Park status in 1988. Bardia is the largest National Park in the Terai with a size of 968 km2 and when including neighbouring Banke National Park (established in 2010) together they form Tiger Conservation Unit (TCU) Bardia-Banke covering a total area of 1,518 km2 (in comparison the size of Chitwan National Park is 932 km2).

Once you get to Bardia your lodge’s resident naturalist will meet to discuss your plans and what activities you would like to do throughout your stay. As part of your package the following activities are normally included: jungle drive in a jeep, bird watching, nature walk, canoeing, ox cart ride, village tours and bathing with an elephant. In the evenings most lodges will organise a cultural show with traditional local Tharu dances or a slide show about Bardia National Park.
