Yangon hotels

Belmond Governor’s Residence is a colonial-style mansion dating from the 1920s located in the Embassy Quarter of Yangon. This hotel has a lush garden with swimming pool, verandas with teak armchairs, three restaurants (Mandalay restaurant, Burmese curry restaurant and the open air Mindon lounge) and the Kipling bar. The rooms are spaciously furnished with carved teak and include a large terrazzo bath tub. There is also The Governor’s Oasis offering a range of spa treatments.

The Strand Hotel is a grand old colonial hotel built in 1901 and is in a similar league to the Raffles Hotel in Singapore. This hotel is located on Strand Road near the waterfront overlooking Yangon River.  The Deluxe Suites are spacious at 60-65 square metres with polished teakwood floors below and ceiling fans whirling from high ceilings above.  There is a separate sitting area and elegant bedroom as well as bathroom with double sinks and deep bathtub. There are several bars and restaurants such as The Strand Grill, The Strand Café and The Strand Bar all exuding history under soaring vaulted ceilings. Sule Shangri La is conveniently located in downtown Yangon and a perfect base for exploring the city near major tourist attractions, such as the Bogyoke Market (Scott Market), Sule Pagoda, China Town and colonial buildings. There are 479 well-appointed rooms and all have views of historic Yangon city, surrounding pagodas or the river. The rooms are spacious at 34 metres squared and have a bathtub and fitted shower. Savoy Hotel is a boutique hotel furnished in colonial style located in a picturesque area of Yangon overlooking the Shwedagon Pagoda. The rooms are spacious at 45 metres squared and are furnished in colonial-style teak wooden fittings with traditional Myanmar antiques.  The rooms have air conditioning and facilities including safe deposit box, hairdryer and complimentary wifi.
