The Kingdom of Bhutan is nestled in the eastern Himalayas between Tibet and the Indian states of Sikkim, Assam and Arunachal Pradesh. The Bhutanese name for Bhutan is Druk Yul meaning "Land of the Thunder Dragon". Bhutan has a rich and unique cultural heritage with mystery and legends that have surrounded it for centuries.

Bhutan has steep mountainsides and remote forested valleys have many holy places with deep mystical importance where the founders of Tibetan Buddhism left their traces.  Much of Bhutan is still covered in forest and, above the treeline, the mountains are largely unexplored and offer some of the best trekking in the Himalaya.
