Dhaulagiri Circuit trek was excellent, as usual it was well planned and well executed. Nothing was too much trouble for the porters or guides. Jill’s leadership only filled me with confidence. The food was brilliant and plenty of it, bed tea in the morning was more than welcome. This was my second trek with The Mountain Company and I would be more than happy to book another one in the future.

Punakha hotels

Uma by COMO, Punakha is located at the far western end of the lush Punakha Valley overlooking a bend in the Mo Chu river.  Their 11 rooms, suites and private villas have been designed as a blend of traditional Bhutanese style with contemporary style. With this small number of rooms Uma by COMO, Punakha  has been  conceived as an intimate, luxury retreat with excellent service and friendly staff. There is a good restaurant and COMO Shambhala Spa.

Aman Kora Punakha is located a short drive from the Punakha Dzong and is reached Reached via a suspension bridge over the Mo Chhu River. The Amankora Punakha Lodge incorporates a traditional Bhutanese farmhouse built by a former Je Khenpo (chief abbot of Bhutan) and is set amidst an orange orchard and rice terraces). The eight Suites are identical in design to those of Amankora Paro and offer a combined lounge and bedroom furnished with a king-size bed, banquette window seat, reading chair and traditional bukhari wood-burning stove. The dining room is in the farmhouse and serves Western and Bhutanese dishes and there is a courtyard for alfresco dining and a tea pavilion. Also in the farmhouse is the sitting room and library as well as a traditional altar room for meditation and prayer. The spa at Amankora Punakha contains two treatment rooms, a steam room, changing areas and a yoga/meditation room.

Hotel Meri Puensum is located above Punakha  with good views down to the river and valley below. This property is family owned and was one of the first hotels in Punakha. The rooms have attached bathroom and are simple yet functional. Some of the rooms have balconies overlooking the valley. There is a restaurant serving Bhutanese, Indian and Chinese with most meals are served as a buffet.
